I just got an iPhone 17 Pro Max and realized my old case doesn’t fit, so I need a new one fast to avoid damaging it. I’m trying to find the best iPhone 17 Pro Max case for drop protection, camera coverage, and a slim feel, but there are too many options and mixed reviews. I’d really appreciate recommendations on durable cases that are actually worth buying.

Best drop protection. Thick corners. Raised lip around screen and camera. Bad pick if you want slim. -
Spigen Tough Armor or Rugged Armor.
Best value. Good button feel. Usually slimmer than OtterBox. Camera ring protection is solid. I’ve had Spigen cases survive waist and chest height drops on tile. -
Mous Limitless.
Good balance of slim and protective. Strong magsafe too. Price is kinda dumb, but the build is legit. -
Caudabe Sheath.
Best slim case with decent grip. Less bulk than Spigen Tough Armor. Protection is good for normal drops, not ‘fell off a ladder’ stuff. -
ESR Classic Hybrid with HaloLock.
Cheap, magsafe works well, clear back if you want to see the phone. Clear cases yellow over time, so keep taht in mind.
For camera coverage, look for:
Raised camera lip, at least 1.5 mm helps.
Covered camera control area that still feels easy to press.
Microfiber inside helps reduce back scratches.
If you want one fast, I’d buy Spigen first. Easy to find, solid protection, not too bulky. If you drop your phone a lot, go OtterBox and accept the brick feel lol. If you want slim, Caudabe is the better bet imo.
I’d actually split this by what kind of drop protection you really mean, because people say “protective” and then buy a super thin case with nice marketing lol.
If you want the safest bet fast, I’d look at Speck Presidio2 Grip. Kinda surprised @reveurdenuit didn’t mention it. It’s not as tank-like as OtterBox, but for everyday drops it’s one of the best middle-ground cases. Good grip matters more than people admit, because a case you can hold onto is better than one that just survives impact tests on paper.

Not my first pick for serious drops, but the fit is usually excellent and camera lip tolerances are clean. Silicone can get kinda sticky in pockets tho. -

I actually think these are underrated if lens protection is your main concern. Downside is they add thickness and can feel less smooth with MagSafe accessories.
3. Best slim-but-safe:
Caudabe Sheath
Grippy, clean fit, raised edges done right. Better in hand than a lot of bulkier cases.
For the ’ specifically:

- side grip texture
- at least 1.5 mm front lip
- individual camera ring protection or a deep camera island ridge
Personally I’d take Caudabe or Spigen over ultra-premium fashion cases every time.
