I recently switched from an iPhone to an Android phone and really miss using my Apple Airtags to track my keys, luggage, and backpack. I know Airtags don’t fully work with Android, so I’m looking for the best Airtag-like trackers that integrate well with Android, have a strong tracking network, and good battery life. What are the most reliable Airtag alternatives for Android, and what should I watch out for in terms of setup, privacy, and real-world accuracy
I went through the same switch. Airtags spoiled me. Here is what works on Android right now.
- Samsung SmartTag / SmartTag2
- Best option if your phone is Samsung.
- Uses Galaxy Find network, which is big in many regions.
- Works similar to Airtag for crowdsourced location.
- SmartTag2 has better battery and IP67 rating.
- You can ring your phone, control smart home stuff, etc.
- Downside: needs a Samsung phone for full features. Not great if you swap brands often.
- Tile (Mate, Pro, Slim, Sticker)
- Works on any Android.
- Network size used to be large, but Tile lost some ground after Apple and Samsung pushed their own tags.
- Crowdsourced tracking works, but not as strong as Airtag in busy cities.
- Tile Pro has louder ring and longer range.
- Subscription needed for smart alerts like “you left this behind” and 30 day location history.
- App is decent, but a bit pushy for paid features.
- Google Find My Device network trackers
This is the one to watch.
- Google rolled out a Find My Device network similar to Apple Find My.
- Uses nearby Android phones to locate lost stuff.
- Several brands plan trackers that plug into this network. Main ones:
• Chipolo One Point and Card Point
• Pebblebee Clip, Card, Tag - These are made for Android, not iOS.
- You get end to end encrypted location, background finding, and integration right in the Find My Device app.
- If your area has lots of Android phones with recent updates, coverage starts to feel closer to Airtags.
If I had to rank for someone new to Android:
If you use a Samsung phone:
- Get Samsung SmartTag2.
- Use it for keys and backpack.
- Use the Samsung SmartThings Find app for precise location.
If you use any other Android:
- Wait for or buy tags that join Google’s Find My Device network.
Right now Chipolo and Pebblebee are leading. - Avoid older random brand trackers that only use Bluetooth without a crowd network. Range is too short for luggage or lost bags.
3 quick use cases:
Keys
- Chipolo One Point or Samsung SmartTag2. Both have a loud ring and keyring hole.
Luggage
- Put one Google-network tag in each bag.
- Check location in the Find My Device app when the bags are slow off the belt.
Backpack / laptop bag
- Tile Pro or Chipolo One Point if you want a replaceable battery and decent volume.
Privacy and stalking protections on Android are getting better. Google and Samsung push alerts if an unknown tracker follows you. Airtags on Android do not get full support, so tracking with those from your Android phone is weak and delayed.
If you want the closest thing to Airtags on Android, long term answer looks like Google Find My Device compatible tags. For today, best bets are:
- Samsung SmartTag2 if you are on a Galaxy
- Chipolo One Point or Pebblebee Clip if you want future proof Find My Device integration
- Tile only if you find a good deal or already have some tags
I switched my keys to Chipolo One Point and my travel bag to a Pebblebee Clip. Both work fine, and I do not miss Airtags much now.
I’m gonna disagree a little with @viajantedoceu on one thing: I don’t think Tiles are worth bothering with anymore unless you literally find them in a bargain bin.
A few extra angles you might want to consider:
-
Think “network first,” not “brand”
Airtags feel magic because of the giant Apple device network. On Android, that same concept is now split between:- Google Find My Device network
- Samsung’s Galaxy Find network
Anything that does not plug into one of those is basically just a glorified Bluetooth keyfinder. Fine for “lost in the couch,” useless for “lost at the airport.”
-
If you’re not locked into Samsung, prioritize Google’s new trackers
Where I differ from @viajantedoceu is I’d flip the priority if you’re starting fresh and don’t plan on being Samsung-only forever. I’d go:- Primary: Google Find My Device compatible tags (Chipolo One Point / Card Point, Pebblebee Clip / Card / Tag).
- Secondary: Samsung SmartTag2 only if you’re pretty sure your next phone is also going to be a Galaxy.
The reason: your tags follow your Google account, not a specific brand’s ecosystem. If in 2 years you jump from Pixel to OnePlus to whatever, your tags still live in the same Find My Device world.
-
Travel use case: airports & luggage
For luggage specifically, I’d really avoid Tile now. Its network is just not competitive in crowded international airports where you actually want that crowdsourced location.
Today I’d do:- Non Samsung Android: one Chipolo One Point or Pebblebee Clip per bag.
- Samsung user who travels mostly in regions with tons of Galaxy phones: SmartTag2 is fine, but keep in mind if you ever leave Samsung you’ll basically need to replace all of them.
-
Keys and backpack practicality
Real world bit that people forget:- An integrated keyring hole matters way more than marketing range numbers. Avoid trackers that need some goofy extra holder for keys.
- For backpacks, I like something rechargeable (Pebblebee) more than replaceable coin cells. You’re more likely to remember to plug it in occasionally than to remember which size coin battery you bought last time. Personal preference, but it saved my butt once.
-
Privacy & stalking stuff
Small but important nitpick with Airtags on Android: yes, Android can warn you about “unknown trackers,” but:- It is slower.
- Management is clunky compared to native Apple.
If you’re tracking your own stuff from Android, I’d honestly retire the Airtags instead of trying to keep using them half-supported. Mixing Airtags + Android is just friction for no real gain now that Google’s network actually exists.
So if I were in your shoes, just switched from iPhone to Android and want an Airtag-like vibe:
- Non Samsung phone:
- Keys: Chipolo One Point
- Backpack: Pebblebee Clip
- Luggage: One Google-network tag in each bag
- Samsung phone and you’re pretty brand loyal:
- Everything important: Samsung SmartTag2
- Only jump to Google-network tags later if you ever leave Galaxy
TL;DR: Forget Tile, park the Airtags, build around either Google’s Find My Device network or Samsung’s, depending on how married you are to your phone brand.
